The Technology

C-Lock Technology Inc.

Precision science for true carbon management.

"A green economy built on carbon avoidance, carbon tax and cap-and-trade programs can't be sustained with approximations or best guesses.

"We are in the credibility business, bringing scientific process to the market so that greenhouse gas measurement becomes as precise and uniformly accepted as reading a municipal water meter."

--Evergreen Energy President & COO Miles Mahoney

Understanding the combination of financial, compliance and social responsibility agendas at work in the new energy economy, Evergreen Energy is uniquely positioned to help business and organizations dramatically improve the verifiable accuracy of their carbon measurements.

Through its C-Lock Technology, Inc. subsidiary, Evergreen Energy has introduced GreenCert™, a web-based carbon information management tool for the agricultural, energy and industrial sectors that is world’s most scientifically accurate, scalable method to measure greenhouse gasses and generate verifiable emissions credits. Built on IBM’s Service-Oriented Architecture, GreenCert is the only enterprise-wide emission information management system that is completely transparent, scalable and can be fully audited to meet the compliance standards of the green energy economy.

The need for GreenCert could not be more pronounced. Global markets for trading verified emission reduction credits are currently estimated at some $125 billion, nearly double the previous year. The Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) commonly used at many power plants is not exact. This means a company could under- or overpay for carbon credits and offsets. GreenCert narrows the certainty of quantification to within a single percentage point either way, with full scientific verification.

Government and industry around the world are realizing GreenCert’s value in creating an easily manageable and fully verifiable platform for precise carbon emissions measurement, monetization and management.

K-Fuel®

Clean energy tomorrow starts with cleaner coal today.

"The K-Fuel process stands out as perhaps the only technology with present and future significance: proven to make coal cleaner today while opening the world's vast reserves of lower-quality coal to commercial use and holding substantial promise as a potential supplier for future generation clean coal technologies"

--Evergreen Energy CEO Tom Stoner

Global energy needs will grow by 45 percent in the next 20 years, almost all of it from developing countries and growing energy consumers like India and China. More than a third of that energy will come from coal, still the most available, most affordable energy source on the planet.

It doesn’t matter if no more coal plants are ever built, or if tomorrow morning the world’s nations break ground for all the wind farms and nuclear plants to meet our energy needs, coal will still provide the majority of our elctricity needs for the next 20-30 years. Other, clean coal technologies that inject greenhouse gas emissions deep underground are still decades away from being commercial while the K-Fuel solution is available today.

Evergreen Energy has spent 20 years and $100 million dollars answering the question: What do we do until then? Our K-Fuel process is proven, scalable and ready for deployment as a technology bridge between today’s exploding energy demands and tomorrow’s green energy economy. With K-Fuel, the world’s growing economies can leverage their hundreds of years worth of coal reserves while making immediate and significant improvements to the air we breath.

By cleaning coal before it’s burned, K-Fuel process makes coal more heat-efficient and affordable, while simultaneously removing significant amounts of mercury. Due to higher efficiency, coal-fired boilers may achieve lower nitrogen oxide and chloride emissions on a per-kilowatt hour generted basis. Explained simply, this “pre-combustion” process puts cheaper, lower-quality coal through a giant pressure cooker to squeeze out significant amounts of moisture – doing what takes millions of years to happen naturally.

After several years of work at our Wyoming developmental facility, Bechtel Corporation and Evergreen engineers and scientists have succeeded in perfecting and standardizing the K-Fuel plant design for use anywhere in the world. Our technology can be applied to an existing or new power plant. And even future generation clean coal plants may produce considerably better results by using refined K-Fuel.

We are studying K-Fuel projects in Asia, where vast untapped coal reserves are needed for long-term energy needs. Other K-Fuel initiatives are being explored in the United States.

Transformative technology for the new energy economy

Balancing the world's growing demands for energy with an urgent goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is the defining challenge facing the world's new energy economy. Evergreen Energy is helping answer these needs by delivering proven, proprietary green technologies for producing significantly cleaner coal, and for measuring all forms of carbon emissions more precisely than ever before.
