K-Direct® - video
K-Fuel® refineries can be built at or near a coal mine, as a terminal or hub plant near multiple modes of transportation, or as K-Direct® facilities at the power plant site. In any case, the raw coal is processed using steam and pressure through a Sasol/Lurgi Mark IV gasifier and associated equipment adapted for the K-Fuel® process. K-Direct plants co-located with new or existing generating stations offer the added advantages of using secondary steam to refine raw low-rank coal feedstocks. With a K-Direct plant at a generating site, coal users can shop the world market for abundant, low-rank coal, process it on site and feed it directly into their boilers.

The K-Fuel terminal concept calls for the construction of a K-Fuel plant at the intersection of multiple forms of transportation: rail, deep-water barge and roadways. Through this transportation infrastructure, multiple types of coal could be delivered to the K-Fuel plant for processing, then shipped to customers. In addition, the terminal concept allows for the blending of K-Fuel and unrefined coals to create custom blends for specific customer needs.
